For All Canadians,

Canada stands at a defining moment in our history. The sacrifices and vision of previous generations built a nation rooted in democracy, fairness, and the unwavering belief in our right to determine our own future. That sovereignty is now being challenged—not by overt force, but by economic coercion, by the steady pressure of foreign interests seeking to shape our policies, industries, and social structures to their own advantage.

We cannot, and we will not, allow this to happen.

This is not a call for division, but for unity—real, tangible solidarity among Canadians of all backgrounds, provinces, and political perspectives. Now is the time to reinforce our national resilience, to protect our economic independence, and to ensure that our future remains firmly in Canadian hands.

I wholeheartedly commit to these five principles:

  1. A Unified Approach to National Strength: We must forge an all-of-Canada strategy that respects our diversity but aligns our economic and political efforts toward a common goal: a self-reliant, thriving Canada. No single region or sector should seek to gain at the expense of another. True national prosperity is shared prosperity.
  2. Sovereignty Without Compromise: Canada’s right to self-determination—politically, economically, socially, and culturally—is non-negotiable. We must actively guard against foreign influence in our democratic processes, media, and industries. This includes countering disinformation and ensuring that no external force can dictate our national policies.
  3. Economic Diversification & Resilience: Over-reliance on any one trading partner, no matter how historically close, is a vulnerability. We must build broader international trade relationships, strengthen domestic production, and develop financial mechanisms that shield our businesses from external coercion. A sovereign nation is an economically independent nation.
  4. Environmental Stewardship & Resource Protection: Our land and waters are not just assets; they are part of who we are. We must fiercely protect our natural resources from foreign exploitation and commit to climate action that prioritizes sustainability without ceding control over our own policies to outside interests.
  5. Global Partnerships on Our Terms: Canada is not alone in facing these challenges. We must actively seek alliances with nations that share our commitment to democracy, equity, and sustainability. Whether in trade, defence, or humanitarian efforts, Canada should stand as a leader—not a follower—in shaping the global future.

These principles are not merely aspirations. They are imperatives. They demand leadership that is bold, decisive, and unwavering in the face of external pressure. They demand that we, as Canadians, refuse to be passive participants in our own destiny.

I urge our political leaders—federal, provincial, territorial, Indigenous, and municipal—to rise to this challenge, to set aside partisan divisions, and to take real, concrete action to defend our sovereignty. The future of our nation depends on it.

I stand with Canada. I stand with Canadians. And together, we will determine our future.

Sign the Pledge for Canada
This petition is intended as an invitation to Canadians to reflect on the current challenges Canada faces and what we can all do to respond to the risks and to contribute to building a more resilient Canada. Please consider signing on to the Pledge for Canada if you agree that the principles set out represent a useful starting point for encouraging the solidarity we need and for urging our leaders to work together to develop a whole of Canada approach.

Previous generations have fought to protect our democracy and made sacrifices to build the Canada we inherited.

This is now our time.

The threats of economic coercion from the United States, our neighbour and leading trading partner, pose serious risks to the well-being of all Canadians and to our sovereign right to determine our political, economic, social, and cultural destiny.

We will meet the challenge as previous generations have done, not by bending to threats but by joining together in common purpose, across partisan, regional, and cultural differences, to look out for one another, to protect our shared interests and assets, and to safeguard our democracy.

Canadians will decide Canada’s future and place in the world.

What is required in this moment is solidarity among Canadians and among our political leaders – federal, provincial, territorial, Indigenous, and municipal. We call on our leaders to work together across partisan divides to forcefully affirm and defend, in word and deed, Canada’s sovereignty, to put in place measures that mitigate the consequences of any unilateral actions on workers, families, and businesses, and to increase Canada’s resiliency in an increasingly turbulent and unpredictable world.

We therefore pledge our commitment to the following principles:

1. We must develop an all-of-Canada approach that is built collaboratively, engages Canadians, and balances to the extent possible our shared and diverse interests. We must also respect and protect our official languages, rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. No region or sector should seek to secure favour at the expense of the rest of the country.

2. We must unequivocally assert and protect the sovereign right of Canadians to shape their own political, economic, social, and cultural destiny, and protect our democracy from disinformation and foreign interference from both public and private actors such as through the manipulation and capture of online platforms.

3. To enhance Canada’s resiliency in this increasingly turbulent world, we must reduce our dependence on the United States by diversifying our trade and strengthening our collective tools and institutions necessary to defend and build the Canada we want, consistent with our shared commitments to inclusive democracy and human rights, equity and labour rights, environmental responsibility, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, and good global citizenship.

4. We must give priority to protecting nature, to preserving control over our lands and water systems, and to resolute action on the climate crisis.

5. We must seek and build alliances with other countries similarly threatened and with other like-minded countries. We must contribute our fair share to international cooperation for global climate action, common defence through alliances of democratic societies, humanitarian response to suffering in the world, and welcoming and protecting those seeking shelter in our lands.
